A Werewolf Kind of Christmas Page 6

An evil grin spread over Tristan's face, and he didn't give her a chance to answer. "You attacked my mate."

"She had no mark. Are you telling me there's a mark now?" The strange tone in his voice made it hard to recognize if he was upset or not.

Erin imagined he was trying to figure out how he would backpedal and try to go with their original plans. It didn't matter, there was an attempt on her life, and that would void the negotiations.

"She's mine in every way now. She'll rule the pack by my side, and if you want to go to war. Fine," Tristan said easily. "Your pack may be bigger, but mine is stronger, and there's nothing you can do to beat me. However, if you back down now, then I won't hold the attack against you."

She closed her eyes and prayed for another Christmas miracle. They needed him to back down, at least for now so they could assess the rest of the situation and get through the holidays.

"Send my wolves back to me, and you have a deal."

She bristled a little bit and looked at Tristan to see if she could interject. He nodded.

"Only the ones who want to return to you."

"Are you allowed to negotiate instead of the alpha?"

Tristan snapped before she could answer. "I don't know how you run your pack, but here, my mate is equal to me. She has the right to decide the fate of her attackers."

She raised a brow at the little outburst and smiled at him.

There was another moment of silence on the phone. "Fine, send those back who want to come. The rest are yours."

The line died in her hand, and she let out a relieved sigh. He smiled at her and kissed her gently. "Now that we've handled that, time to rest and heal."

She curled back up against him and closed her eyes as he held her.

Erin woke up to a cold bed. No Tristan to be found, and no warmth to the side of the bed he'd been sleeping on. She stood and stretched, her muscles protesting in response. The wounds had healed, but the strain on the body hadn't passed yet. The good news was, she wasn't limping anymore.

She grabbed one of Tristan's t-shirts and threw it on and then made her way downstairs. Pausing at the sound of people chattering, she wondered just how long she had been asleep. Walking into the living room, she watched as the pack members exchanged brightly wrapped presents. There were more there than just the few pack members she had met, some adults, a few children, and teens. All of them laughing and talking as if the fight the night before hadn't happened.

A child ran up to Tristan and threw her arms around him. "Thank you!" She clung to a stuffed kitten with oversized eyes and pink dots. He smiled, and it made his whole face light up.

This was home now. This was her pack, her family. Tristan turned to her and held his hand out, inviting her to join them. She walked over to him and slid her hand into his warm one. He squeezed it gently. "Welcome to your pack, and Merry Christmas."
